New Entrants
We have five entrants this week; two left HitBound last week, two more went straight to the countdown, and one went the proper way. We'll go from worst to best.

  • This first song comes from the extremely overrated Billie Eilish with Bury A Friend. With that, it's rant time. I honestly do not know what this song is. It left HitBound last week but it was still on the poll so me and the rest of the Hits 1 Discord server knew it was coming here so I'm honestly not surprised. But I do not understand what makes everyone like Billie Eilish. What makes this song so putrid is the fact that you can barely hear her voice over the terrible production. It's like an alternate world where pop music and mumbling artists meet. I really hate the aahhh's in the chorus. Those were unnecessary. Plus, this review comes from someone who puts Ocean Eyes in his Top 20 of 2016. I understand that with When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? she was trying something new but it just does not work at all. This pretty much has a spot locked for my Bottom 10 of 2019. I do not understand the appeal. Maybe I'm overthinking it but honestly, this sucks. I would not like to see this be a hit but I'm sure Hits 1 will overrate it like a bunch of people I know do.
    • Overall Rating: 0.5/10
  • Next up we have MAX with Love Me Less featuring Quinn XCII. I'm sure we remember MAX from his 2017-2018 hit, Lights Down Low which I sometimes use as my one-year tenure example because of its long tenure achievement. Of course MAX shows off his good voice here in the chorus and first verse. I'm not a big fan of Quinn XCII which brings this down for me. I'm not huge on the production either. I think Lights Down Low was better in terms of production. Overall, this is a decent song and I don't mind it becoming a hit as long as it isn't overplayed.
    • Overall Rating: 6/10
  • Next we have soon-to-be breakout artist Lewis Capaldi with Someone You Loved. I don't really have much to say for this song. It's a sweet song and I like the production of the track. But I don't have the best feeling about those vocals. I think they need a bit of improvement. It's a sweet song but not the best thing ever. Again, I don't have much to say because this is based on a first listen.
    • Overall Rating: 6.5/10
  • The fourth song comes from Alessia Cara who had Growing Pains and Trust My Lonely from a few months ago. I wasn't a big fan of those songs but this one is quite a step up. I like the production a bit and personally, I feel like her vocals have significantly improved over time since Here. I think the meaning is good; it's about her sudden change in emotions which causes her boyfriend to leave her. It's a good song. Not the best thing Alessia has been part of but it's good. (Her best is 1-800-273-8255 with Logic and Khalid by a landslide.)
    • Overall Rating: 8.5/10
  • Our final debut and my new favorite song on the countdown comes from NOTD who had the extremely overplayed I Wanna Know last year. This new song also includes Felix Jaehn, Captain Cuts, and Georgia Ku and is titled So Close. If you've read too much and you want a short summary, then take this. Long story short, this is an EDM masterpiece. The production kicks the song off then Georgia Ku steals the show with her amazing vocals that I know of. The drop does feel a little Marshmello-like but it's still great and it has a nice moving vibe. The lyrics are great too. All considered, this is my new jam and I would love to see this get big here. I can already tell it won't because Hits 1 underrates good music which is visible through the fact that Miss Me More is already gone.
    • Overall Rating: 10/10
Debut Ranking:
5. Billie Eilish - Bury A Friend
4. MAX ft. Quinn XCII - Love Me Less
3. Lewis Capaldi - Someone You Loved
2. Alessia Cara - Out of Love
1. NOTD, Felix Jaehn, & Captain Cuts ft. Georgia Ku - So Close

6 - Best Song on HitBound
1. Taylor Swift ft. Brendon Urie - ME!

Bury A Blurb
  • Can Without Me just stay out of the Top 3? Please? This song is trash and we don't need even more Halsey than we already have. Just start dropping please.
  • The disgusting Low Key is in the Top 20. We don't need these kinds of songs becoming huge hits just because the artist is part of Fifth Harmony. The girls have not been doing so good especially Jauregui and Brooke herself. I would definitely prefer we don't let this blow up here.
  • However, we also have Be Alright ressurecting into the Top 20. As you may know, I loved this song and still do to this day. I would love to see another Dean Lewis song make the charts here like Stay Awake. This man is very talented and A Place We Knew shows that very well.
  • With the two entrants into the Top 20 out of the way, Dumb Blonde and Shallow fell out. I'm not very happy about either and these two songs show off all of these artists' talent. I really want to see both make a ressurection but for Dumb Blonde it is unlikely because of essentially what I said in my review for So Close; Hits 1 underrates the good music and lets the disgraces rise up.
  • Looks like Old Town Road actually has a chance here. I like this song quite a bit and it wouldn't disappoint me if it became a hit here. It most likely won't because we know what happens to songs like Sicko Mode that become big elsewhere; they just hide below the Top 20 and don't become a hit. But I would be relatively happy if it did rise here.
  • As far as our exits go, Love Lies was getting old so I don't really care much. GIRL and Please Me weren't really all that good so I'm glad to see them out of the countdown, especially the latter. Miss Me More definitely flopped here just because Hits 1 is weird sometimes but it's doing rather well on Billboard Hot 100 for what feels like an underground artist. However, I'm going to miss Youngblood. This is the only exit this week that actually became a hit. I fell in love with this song once I first heard it and it still sticks with me to this day. Goodbye, Youngblood. With that, Who Do You Love is 5 Seconds of Summer's last stand here for a few years.

Why hello there, viewers! Today was a bit of an inactive week because we had only one exit but decently sized moves. If you haven't seen already, I recommend you go check out my two previous posts over songs from these days and my favorites from Panic!. Also, I have moved my page list to the top of the sidebar instead of the cross-column bar. You may have noticed that I did rework the color code. New Entrants
  • Our lone entry comes from none other than Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus with a rerelease of Old Town Road. I can understand why one wouldn't like this song but personally I am a fan. I like the production and even with the trap parts, I kinda like the country incorporation. Billy Ray Cyrus did a pretty good job with the chorus and I think the inclusion of Lil Nas X was very good. Overall, I don't see it becoming a huge hit on the countdown just because but this is a good song that should at least do something (inb4 leaves next week).
  • Overall Rating: 9/10

HitBound
Here is the HitBound list for this week.
  • Jennifer Lopez ft. French Montana - Medicine
  • Alec Benjamin - If We Have Each Other

  • Louis Tomlinson - Two Of Us
  • Ava Max - So Am I

  • Bazzi - Paradise (DEBUT)
Top 5 HitBound Picks
1. The Weeknd x Travis Scott x SZA - Power Is Power
2. Panic! At The Disco - Dancing's Not A Crime
3. Kygo ft. Valerie Broussard - Think About You
4. Chainsmokers - Kills You Slowly
5. Alec Benjamin - If We Have Each Other

Old Town Blurb
  • Speechless and Dancing With A Stranger have entered the Top 10. I am quite happy about both and extra happy about which songs they replaced. Let Me Down Slowly is still someting I am losing interest in and Happier is just generic garbage. Hopefully it starts going on a decline.
  • Walk Me Home and Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I'm Bored made some expected jumps into the Top 20. I lost a bit of interest in the former and the latter I don't really care much about it. Ariana is going downhill quickly so I don't really like Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I'm Bored but it's fine that it's here for now.
  • However, I am very happy that I've Been Waiting jumped up into the Top 20. I am a big fan of this song and I think the three collaborators may score a goal with this song on the radio. Fun fact: I was not a fan at all before and look now. My biggest guilty pleasure of the year so far.
  • Here With Me jumped to #24 on its second week. I'm quite pleased about this and I can see it becoming a big hit in the future. I'm very proud of CHVRCHES for finally getting themselves what looks like a mainstream hit as I saw it on Billboard Hot 100 a few weeks ago.
  • 7 Rings took a big drop. This song is so grating that I am actually very happy about it. It almost soulds like Ariana is whispering in the chorus because I was playing it at volume 6/25 which is decent for my laptop and I barely heard the chorus. The lyrics are horrible too; it's her bragging about her money and belongings and all the other crap she has. Overall this is putrid and a huge disgrace to the pop genre, please let it leave.
  • Not so happy about Chlorine taking a tumble though. I actually like this song quite a bit and I'm not happy to see it didn't even take a spot in the Top 10 yet (at least I don't think it did). If they come back, I wish they would turn back more to songs like Stressed Out and Ride.
  • As far as our lone exit goes, I'm not very happy about Apologize leaving. I like the production and vibe as well as the rock feeling that Grandson's vocals put out. If you haven't already, you should hear some of his other songs including Blood/Water which I absolutely love. I will say my condolences for Apologize; goodbye, we will miss you. Grandson shall come back with a real hit.
  • Something I find strange is that they removed six songs from the voting poll and added three. Then on the real week we got two HitBound debuts and one exit. Maybe they were preemptively removing the songs so we could expect a big week soon. After all, So Close and Bury A Friend left HitBound but played quite a lot, maybe they are trying to pull another March 16-23 on us where songs that exited HitBound in one week debut the countdown on the next week.

For those who are unaware, Brendon Urie's birthday had passed about a week ago - he is now 32. I wish him a happy belated birthday and because of it, this will be a post of my personal top favorites from Panic! At The Disco where he is the lead singer. This was pretty hard to compile because I am a Panic! stan so I have a lot of favorites from them. But here we are.

Reviewing #1s on YEs - 2014 and Past

What I would like to address with this post is that these recent years were actually pretty good times for music on Hits 1. Here, I will show you my opinion on the #1 song of each Year-End Chart from 2014 to 2018. I will grade a year using the same model as my Top 20 Review but multiplied by 10 (Crap = 0, Bad = 10, etc.). Speaking of which, the color code is the same as Top 20. The total of all charts can be a "Flexible Total" of 250 points. It's called a "Flexible Total" because 20 points are awarded for each song that is #1 and my favorite song on that chart. This adds to an "Absolute Total" of 350 points. If you do not know my Top 20 coloring, here is a reminder that will apply to this post.

Worst of the Year - 0
Crap - 0
Bad - 10
Mediocre - 20
Decent - 30
Good - 40
Great - 50
Best of the Year - 70

Are we ready? Let's start with 2014.

#1 Song of 2014 - OneRepublic - Counting Stars
Yes. We're only in 2014 yet already earned 70 instant points. Honestly I feel like this song was a masterpiece. I first heard about this guys very early in 2013 when I first heard about their collab with Timbaland on Apologize. I heard the song and I liked it mainly because of OneRepublic. Later after that, I was pretty hyped when I saw Counting Stars was a thing. I clicked the video and loved both the song and the video. I love the production behind Ryan's voice and the lyrical content about being thankful and open. Once I started hearing this on radio I was thrilled that my favorite song was already on radio. And even with the overplay and popularity on most pop and for some reason a few alt channels, I never got sick of this. Not even once. I think this is the best song OneRepublic has ever released and nothing compares to this masterpiece. Kids? No. Wherever I Go? No. This was such a great song and it's sad to see this be a very unpopular opinion in the community but I don't care what anyone says.

#1 Song of 2015 - Walk the Moon - Shut Up and Dance
I want to cover something early about this song. I don't really hate this song. It's just that it was good at first, overplay nearly everywhere absolutely killed this song (tying with Shake It Off's record with 12 weeks at #1) and it rose very quickly and I got sick of it pretty quick because of how much I would hear it in the car. Nicholas did good with the vocals and the production was fine. I heard this song reached several alt stations and did very good there too which makes sense. Later on they came to release album What If Nothing with very improved songs such as One Foot. So do I think this is their best? Of course not. But is it horrible? No. It felt mediocre due to overplay so it did cease me.

#1 Song of 2016 - Twenty One Pilots - Stressed Out
I first heard about Twenty One Pilots when Hits 1 started playing Tear In My Heart. I found that song pretty bad but Stressed Out is an easy improvement. I noticed that with the former, they were trying to go with a hard rock style and didn't play out well for them. After they played Stressed Out, I was impressed. Tyler improved his vocals by a landslide and the production is better as Tear In My Heart sounded like Tyler hired 50 people to all play horns, piano, drums, and electric guitar simultaneously. I can see why someone wouldn't like this song but I really loved it. For those unaware, this is about the fact that life is more enjoyable in your childhood and when you're older, life becomes harder. I understand this cycle no matter who you are so this is great songwriting to me. This is easily the best thing Twenty One Pilots has released so far and this is a great song that deserved the recognition it got.

#1 Song of 2017 - Ed Sheeran - Shape of You
Yes, Ed's strong return to the mainstream radio. He came in with album ÷ and this was included in it. As expected, this became massive nearly everywhere because, well, it's Ed Sheeran. What did you expect? This was a neat return for him but after a while this became extremely overplayed and I don't enjoy it as much as I used to. Don't get me wrong, it's still good. It was just played a lot and it grew out of me a little. Anyway, his vocals improved from his previous songs. The acoustic guitar enhances the experience too but it could have been better. This was a great song that got on the mainstream but it got overplayed and faded on me. Nice song though, would love to see Ed Sheeran make a return yet again. Speaking of returns, I noticed Taylor Swift... changed some stuff on her Twitter account. Hmm.

And finally...

#1 Song of 2018 - Zedd & Maren Morris ft. Grey - The Middle
If you've been following the Hits 1 blogging community for the past year, my opinion on this won't be surprising. This song is crap. If there are worse producers than Marshmello then they have to be Zedd and Grey. There are way better producers that could have made this better like Diplo, Chainsmokers, and NOTD. And here's this: Maren Morris sucks. 80s Mercedes and some other songs off of that album are her only good things; everything else is at most mediocre. Oh yeah and Grey sucks too. Maren did especially horrible in this song. As to those who think Happy Now is Zedd's worst and haven't heard this abomination, I dare you to listen to this. He went extremely generic with this and he had way more original songs in the past. I don't want every EDM and dance producer to go the route Zedd and Marshmello have already taken. For now though, I'll stick to songs like Beautiful Now and Clarity. I actually remember being a literal stan but now Zedd is extremely putrid. For short though this is my Body Like A Back Road of 2018. Also fun fact: this is the only song with multiple artists featured in this review.

New Entrants
  • Let's start off with our worst debut but also the highest. This is another song from Ariana Grande titled Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I'm Bored. Now I haven't been liking her recent music much. This one is a bit different. Her vocals appeal a bit more to me in this and the production is better in general. There's also some sort of groove that I like. An improvement from most of Ariana's recent music but it isn't good. Still sorta meh but this might be a grower, who knows?
    • Overall Rating: 4.5/10
  • Next up is Avril Lavigne who you might know for the recently departed Tell Me It's Over, which I consider her best song yet. She collaborates with Nicki Minaj on Dumb Blonde which based on reviews I noticed is a female empowerment anthem. I honestly used to hate this because of the vocals in the chorus and I still don't really like those to this day. I have grown on the song itself. Avril does great and Nicki does fine with her parts. I'm not the biggest fan of that production but I feel like the song itself is pretty good. I can see this becoming a hit.
    • Overall Rating: 8/10
  • We have returning Ciara with her song Thinkin Bout You. Fun fact, it only took two weeks for both of our HitBound debuts from March 30, 2019 to be on the countdown simultaneously. I used to not be a fan of Ciara at all. However here she shows some serious vocal talent. The guitar (I believe that is?) is a good addition and mixes very well with her voice. Overall, this is one of her much better songs that I can see getting somewhere on the countdown.
    • Overall Rating: 8.5/10
  • Our fourth debut of the week comes from Fletcher as the lowest debut of the week at #40. This song is called Undrunk. I don't know about you but I love this. The vocals are great and the background production is mesmerizing. I really want this to become a hit because I can't remember the last time Fletcher had a hit or if she even had one at all. Fletcher needs a hit because her last one either didn't exist or was quite a while ago. It's about time our countdown gets better music like this.
    • Overall Rating: 9.5/10
  • The fifth and final debut this week is a new song that just might be one of the best songs of the year. This is Here With Me by Marshmello featuring band CHVRCHES. I don't know what to say about this. This is such a great song and from the pit he took with songs like Happier, I thought he would never make a real comeback. I was wrong. This is honestly such a great song that I don't know if words can't describe it but I guess I'll try. Lauren's vocals are great as nearly anything CHVRCHES has been a part of. Marshmello improved a lot and the drop is much better to listen to. And this comes from someone who thinks Marshmello has taken the generic road like Zedd which is visible in songs such as Happier, Everyday, and Project Dreams, the latter two of which are only good because of the featured artists.

'Cause I Need Blurbs Here With Me

  • Sucker is still going strong in many radio stations including here so it's no surprise that it will be here for a while. I still like this song so I have no problem though I may be out of it in a few months time. Also I was reading Billboard news and according to them, the Jonas Brothers stole this song's production from Portugal. The Man - Feel It Still. I don't believe the rumors but let me know what you think.
  • Somehow High Hopes entered the Top 10 yet again. Don't get me wrong, this song is still amazing. However it's been here for quite a while and has had a long while of AirPlay. Plus with their Pray for the Wicked tour at an end this and the other tracks may start falling and I'm worried that Dancing's Not A Crime actually won't debut.
  • I'm So Tired... is slowly rising up. Can we not let this happen? I can tolerate it right now but it isn't going to stick for long. I know Troye has done so much better in the past and this isn't it. Hopefully this takes a decline this month or the next because it isn't the best thing on this radio.
  • All three of our debuts from last week seem to be doing well. As you all may know I think most of Fifth Harmony is crap so Low Key doesn't even deserve to be here. Juice I have learned to somewhat tolerate though that won't be the case for very long. I am extremely excited about Last Hurrah as it is one of Bebe Rexha's best songs and because Hits 1 has grown to become a Bebe Rexha stan since songs like Hey Mama, I can see this becoming a success here like its predecessor.
  • Tequila took quite a drop from the Top 20 this week. Hopefully this doesn't mark the end because I loved this song and I am still sticking with it to this day. However, Speechless has risen to take its spot though this isn't as promising because Tequila is the superior song though only by centimeters.
  • Eastside and Miss Me More took tumbles out of the Top 30 especially the former. It's not strange because I wasn't hearing them much in the car though what is strange is the size of the drops. Hopefully Benny Blanco won't be a one-hit wonder here. If so, guilty pleasure incoming, I would actually like Roses to get here though it most likely won't. It still can though because Brendon Urie happened.
  • Sunflower took a huge roll straight out of the Top 20 and into the Bottom 5. Honestly I feel like this is another guilty pleasure for me. This song is actually very good and a better song from Post Malone. Please don't leave yet. However once again, Wow. replaced this song but is behind a bit and will probably become a name here.
  • As far as the exits go, good riddance to The Way I Am. I thought it was mediocre at first and then I lost it very quickly so it's great to see it gone. I'm A Mess lasted a bit longer than I thought it would so it's nice to see it gone though it is still decent to me. Last Hurrah shall carry on. Hurts Like Hell is kind of one of those songs that are just there for me. I never really hated or liked it. But I hate to see Genius and All the Ways gone. The former is literally the only time LSD had a good song and it deserved much better than Thunderclouds, Mountains, etc. The latter is an improvement from most of Meghan's music so it's sad to see it gone so early.
