New Entrant
  • Our lone entrant this week comes from Halsey's new song, Nightmare. This is a step up from most of her discography; I almost had it in green this week but decided that it wasn't as worthy anymore. Now the production is definitely pretty good. I don't know about her vocals though. I find them kind of grating in the chorus and boring in the verses. Maybe it just takes some time. But overall, not huge on this but it's okay for the time being.
    • Overall Rating: 6.5/10

I Keep a Record of the Blurbs In My Life
  • I'm not going to do blurbs this week largely because nothing really even happened this week; both of our biggest movers are less than ten slots. However, I will say that Bury A Friend deserved the drop, I'm happy about So Close surging into the Top 20, and Without Me needs to stay as far from #1 as possible. That's pretty much it.

Top 10 Songs from the Chainsmokers

DJ Alex Pall's birthday unexpectedly passed about a week ago. You know what time it is. I did it with Urie's Panic! At The Disco and I am now doing it for Pall's Chainsmokers. I can consider myself a big fan. I like most of what they put out. Here, I will count down my ten favorites from them.

10. Everybody Hates Me
Album: Sick Boy
Rating: 8/10

9. Paris
Album: Memories... Do Not Open
Rating: 8.5/10

8. #SELFIE
Album: The Duff (Original Motion Picture)
Rating: 8.75/10

7. Beach House
Album: Sick Boy
Rating: 9/10

6. Side Effects (featuring Emily Warren)
Album: Sick Boy
Rating: 9/10

5. Kills You Slowly
Album: World War Joy
Rating: 9/10

4. Closer (featuring Halsey)
Album: Collage
Rating: 9.25/10

3. Who Do You Love (featuring 5 Seconds of Summer)
Album: World War Joy
Rating: 9.5/10

2. You Owe Me
Album: Sick Boy
Rating: 9.75/10

And of course, there's one song that cannot be left out...
1. This Feeling (featuring Kelsea Ballerini)
Album: Sick Boy
Rating: 10/10

I don't care what you think; this song is just amazing in every way. I have no idea why it isn't on my charts yet. Kelsea and Drew fit so well together with the charming and quick production. I love the meaning about your friends disagreeing with you in your relationship. Overall, I don't understand how and why one could hate this.

Thank you for taking the time to read this! Happy Belated Birthday to Alex Pall and I'll see you soon!

1K Pageviews - Pyoris's Q&A

I decided to lean away from the whole 2018 Hits 1 Year-End and scrap that for 10K. Instead, we will be doing a normal and generic Q&A. Basically, just fill in the two basic requirements: name (you can use your Blogger name, real name, or submit as Anonymous) and your question. Here are the basic considerations for this:

  • DO NOT ask for personal information. My personal information is kept personal like I said in my blurb for I'm So Tired on May 18.
  • This is due June 14, 2019 so you have about three to four weeks to ask questions. The post containing all the questions and answers may be out by up to two weeks later (June 28).
  • You can ask a maximum of five questions, each in an independent response.
  • This is NOT restricted to music! Feel free to ask questions about my non-music life!
Thank you for taking some time to read this. Click here to submit questions.

Biggest Jump of the Week: Lil Nas X ft. Billy Ray Cyrus - Old Town Road (+18)

New Entrants
  • Our first entrant comes from newcomer Jordan McGraw who apparently is Dr. Phil's son. He delivers with Flexible. I like this one quite a bit. His vocals are good and the verses are done pretty well. I think the production is pretty cool and gives it that electronic-pop vibe. What I believe is the best part of this song is the chorus. It flows really well and even with the cheesy rhymes, it's a very good chorus and it feels very vibey and nice. I don't mind this being a hit at all and I think it could last.
    • Overall Rating: 9/10
  • Our much higher entrant all the way up at #12 is I Don't Care by Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber. Honestly, I have really mixed feelings about this. The vocals are pretty mediocre and the production isn't that good and doesn't fit with the theme of the song. It's definitely a pretty bad song. But I don't absolutely hate it. It could be in blue within the next few weeks but for now I don't really like it.
    • Overall Rating: 3/10

3. P!nk - Hustle
4. Louis Tomlinson - Two of Us
5. Mabel - Don't Call Me Up

I Don't Blurb
  • Sucker at #1 for all these weeks is getting on my nerves now. Don't be surprised if you see this in orange soon because the overrating and love for it is honestly really unnecessary. If anything, Cool is actually the better song and should it debut, it's pretty much locked for my Top 45 of 2019 unlike Sucker which is lingering around at the moment.
  • Despite this, we have a Top 5 entrant this week at last! The entrant is ME! which is of course a great song. I'm a little sad it replaced Hey Look Ma, I Made It but it was a great choice. I think Without Me should have been kicked but at least ME!'s in the Top 5 now. Hopefully it hits #1 next week.
  • I'm also very pleased with the jumps from Here With Me and If I Can't Have You. These are both great songs which are destined for success (see the latter) so I'm glad they made it. I'll definitely listen to either more than songs like Happier, I Don't Care, Without Me, and Bury A Friend.
  • Apparently, Old Town Road made a jump into the Top 20 which is weird because I've never seen Hits 1 praise rap music. What's even funnier is that I said Old Town Road wouldn't succeed here when it debuted and I even emphasized that last week but it turns out, it made a leap up. It probably won't last but if I learned a thing, it's don't speak too soon.
  • *you see #18 in green* Oh, don't worry about me, I'm just doing my casual thing... oh yeah and I have no email address.
  • Something else that kinda felt needed was a drop from Let Me Down Slowly. It's actually getting out of my system now and I would like for it to find its way down soon.
  • The jump from Bury A Friend was definitely unneeded and unwanted. It's literally some of the biggest crap I've heard my whole life and it is locked for the Bottom 10 of 2019. Bad Guy should be the much larger hit at the moment and I don't understand much of the praise that goes to her.
  • I don't really care that Boy With Luv took that drop but I'm definitely irritated that Be Alright followed. Dean Lewis is much more talented than people make him out to be and it's sad that his music is being underrated in the United States but is doing great in the United Kingdom and Australia. Sometimes, Americans are weird though.
  • Tracing the same lines, Someone You Loved is doing rather well. This is a pretty underrated song that I definitely regret rating like I did when it debuted. I'd be glad to see this reach the Top 20 soon and also get some of his other songs like Hold Me While You Wait to get on Hits 1 soon. For now though, give this and Two of Us some love and success.
  • About the exits, I didn't particularly care about either of them. 11 Minutes was the better song but it never stood out to me. The same applies to Thank U, Next which I never really liked. So yeah. Definitely better debuts than exits.

New Entrants

  • Our first debut comes from the of course terrible Billie Eilish with When The Party's Over. Let me just recap the review of Bury A Friend just in case it's needed but it applies here too. Just dull and uninteresting. Her voice is complete crap and it sounds like what Jeremy from CinemaSins describes, "she is afraid she will set off an alarm if she raises her voice over 22 decibels." The production lacks any sort of interest and is very lackluster. I don't get a good vibe from this song either. I'm over this. We need to stop this for everyone's sanity.
    • Overall Rating: 0.5/10
  • Our next entry is from... Billie Eilish with Bad Guy. Now it's time to heal up from rant time because I have realized this is a somewhat enjoyable song. She is still silent as a stone but the production is somewhat fun and enjoyable. I really like the prechorus too. I grew on this a lot within the past few weeks. You can actually expect this to be in green in the next few weeks.
    • Overall Rating: 7/10
  • Next up we have Medicine by Jennifer Lopez featuring French Montana. This is a great bop. I really like what Jennifer has to offer here. The production is fun too. I love the chorus too; it's extremely cool and fun. Even French Montana plays a pretty solid part. Overall, it's a really catchy and entertaining song and I would love to see it get big.
    • Overall Rating: 9/10
  • Finally at #17, we have If I Can't Have You by Shawn Mendes. This is extremely fun too. Shawn's vocals shine bright and sound great with the production. I love the verses too and the prechorus is a good part. What makes me like this song the most is the chorus. He sounds so good there and the production jump feels great. Great song and would be nice to see it become a hit.
    • Overall Rating: 9.5/10

I Could Be Your Blurb-icine, Yeah

  • Sucker is still #1 after what feels like forever. I will be shocked if it isn't #1 on the Year-End Chart for this year. I have a feeling it'll drop off soon. If it does, Who Do You Love, ME!, and Sweet But Psycho are good #1 contenders.
  • We've had this same Top 5 for about a month. This needs to stop. We need a new Top 5 entry, I'm sick of Hits 1 always overrating the same songs every week. Also another fact; Without Me has lasted half a year in the Top 10 for Billboard Hot 100, being the song to have the longest tenure in the Hot 100 Top 10 by a female artist. *sigh*
  • I'm pretty disappointed that ME! didn't go higher than it did this week. But I'm still very happy. I can tell it's gonna reach #1 sooner or later. I'm also awaiting the rest of her upcoming album; I'm sure it'll be a blast.
  • Boy With Luv took a big jump into the Top 20 this week. I'm cool with it. I've come to appreciate the song itself and I like it. It can stay as long as it wants as long as it isn't overplayed.
  • Someone You Loved is taking a good rise this week. It jumps ten spots which is cool with me. I like this and I find it a nice song. You really wouldn't expect a song from Lewis Capaldi to get big unless you're from the United Kingdom where I think four or five of his songs are charting on the Top 75 UK chart. I'm glad it's becoming a hit here.
  • We have multiple big drops from great songs, namely Shallow, Last Hurrah, I've Been Waiting, and Better. These are all good and it's sad to see that the fact I stated a few weeks ago is being proven correct. Hopefully these don't leave so soon, especially the very former.
  • For a chart of the "top 45 songs in North America," Old Town Road is not doing well. At the same time though, they call this a child-friendly radio but here's this. SOS by Avicii has the word drugs censored out but Kills You Slowly by Chainsmokers is left with the words f*ck and sh*t uncensored. So that's something weird.
  • As far as the exits this week go, 2002 was way overrated by Hits 1 and needed to go. Sunflower I didn't care much for so I'm neutral on it. In Betweenin' was a space filler and we didn't really need it here so I'm glad it went on its way out. But what actually made me sad was Eastside like I mentioned in the introduction. This is one of Halsey's best so I'm disappointed that it got a fate like this. It got a peak at #6 and did very well overall, spending a lot of time in the Top 20. It was Benny's breakout hit and I think it's his best song. I know another person who agrees with me on most of these notes (not calling names). Goodbye, Eastside. You will be missed. Oh, and Khalid did cheap but great too.

Jonas Brothers (6) - May 4, 2019

Welcome back to the blog, everybody! I am working on a special at the moment to celebrate 500 pageviews. It's not much but it's a good start. We had quite a bit happen this week; three entries and a few surprise debuts on HitBound. IMPORTANT NOTE: I am yet again delaying all dates for the 30 Pop Rankdown by three weeks. I want to get at least six participants, we have three as of now. This may be the last postponing of these times so make sure you get to work now. It's on the pages widget on the sidebar (30 Pop Rankdown - Get involved here!).

Here is another important announcement: I am going to simplify the color code. The phasing colors (orange, cyan, pink) will not be changed nor will Color Code B but Color Code A is getting a big rework. First of all, light red and dark green will be removed and phased into red and green respectively. Red will no longer only indicate crap music and will also indicate bad music too. Green will no longer only indicate good music and will also indicate great music too. Blue does not have a partnered color. Maroon and purple will remain the same. Color Code A will be used for new entrant ratings too. Color Code B will now be only used for Top 20 Review and Year-End Reviews.

New Entrants

  • What I like about Panic! At The Disco is that they can make a great bop but apply a good meaning or storyline to it. This is shown in their new song, Dancing's Not A Crime. I like the production and verses a bit. I think that was cool. I really like Urie's vocals too and that chorus is so good and moving; it really shows his talent as a singer. He performed Hey Look Ma, I Made It on Wednesday for Billboard Awards 2019 but I think this should've been performed instead because this shows his talent and vocal range much more than the former does. Back on topic. I love the lyrical story too. From what I can tell, it's about Brendon in his days of college and the urge to find his soulmate which I'm pretty sure is relatable for several of us. I love this song a lot and I can see it having momentum despite not being a single off Pray for the Wicked.
    • Overall Rating: 9.5/10
  • Our second debut and my "least favorite" out of all is BTS featuring Halsey on Boy With Luv. There's just something I like about this. I like the vocals a small bit and I'm a fan of Halsey's contribution. I'm not huge on the production though. It's probably the groove or something like that making me like the song a fair amount. This isn't worth writing a Dancing's Not A Crime-long review but I like this. I can see it growing on me a good amount during its tenure.
    • Overall Rating: 8/10
  • Finally, the long-awaited return of Taylor Swift. She makes her rebound with Brendon Urie on the team and her new song, ME!. This song is amazing. I love Taylor Swift's vocals here and like you would expect out of a Panic! stan, I really like Brendon Urie's contribution here. The production is somewhat interesting too. I know the bridge is very cringeworthy (i.e. and you can't spell awesome without me!) but it's fun. I like the hook too mainly because it's so infectious and distracting. The best thing about this is the message about self-confidence and empowerment. It's a thing we use everyday in our lives and it's good to see that we have people who care about this kind of thing. All things considered, this is an amazing song and hopefully this does better than her more relevant songs (i.e. Delicate) though that's off the list because (a) it's all the way up at #13 and (b) Hits 1 stans Taylor Swift and Panic! At The Disco. Also please check the Hits 1 credits for this song. It's half wrong, half right, what do you think?

5. Jonas Brothers - Cool (suddenly)

Hey Kids! Blurbs Are Fun!
  • Sucker is #1 yet again. I think this might be here for two more weeks or so. It's been having a lot of gains and is still going strong. I can also see Cool making it on the countdown which, in my opinion, is the better song. This is a good song too.
  • Something strange happens to me when Happier plays on the radio. Instead of making me plug in my ears, somehow I can actually stand it. Just wanting to say I've grown into it. Probably not for long but enjoy it while it lasts.
  • I'm starting to compare Let Me Down Slowly to a yoyo in my head. It drops low then it ressurects back up. Rinse, repeat. I would appreciate to see this start taking actual drops and not -4 per week because it's getting on my nerves now.
  • Thinkin Bout You leaped up to #22 this week most likely given the performance on Billboard Awards 2019. I'm growing into this song more so I like to see it jumping higher. Hopefully Ciara has another hit this year.
  • As far as our last-week debuts go, none have really gotten a step. Bury A Friend and Out of Love actually dropped in fact and the others didn't really jump much. Someone You Loved had the biggest jump out of the five and it's only +3. I don't see much potential for these songs besides Bury a Friend and maybe Love Me Less. I'm pretty sure So Close is about to flop but I may be wrong, you never know.
  • Low Key took a tumble which I am thrilled about. We don't need generic tunes from generic artists *cough* Marshmello *cough* becoming big hits because we have a generic radio. Get out.
  • Natural left a bit later than I thought it would but I'm happy about it because I really liked it. Undrunk is a good song that deserved way more success than it got. Wait for You was never really relevant so I'm happy to see it go rather early.
